  1. The Therapeutic Recreation Process is a systematic way of delivering the proper intervention necessary for a client to meet their needs. APIE is an acronym for Assessment, Plan, Implement and Evaluate. These four phases of intervention are what are used when working with clients in Recreation Therapy. Initially the assessment is done to see where the client is at, establish their strengths and weaknesses and to establish a base line of needs in order to work with. Planning then incorporates the use of recreation or leisure activities that will help to meet the needs of the client. Planning can include goal setting as well. Implementing the plan is the next phase and this is when all the work is done mutually for the benefit of the client. Tasks can be monitored carefully in this phase. Evaluation involves the summing up it all. Whether the client was successful in meeting their needs or accomplishing their goals can be determined. A thorough evaluation would dictate whether a client may have to continue at the same level of competancy or advance to another level of competancy. This would then involve another assessment or reassessment and the entire cycle happens all over again.
